A celebration of “Experiential Learning – Inside and Outside” is what brought the Mid-Atlantic together for its 2008 region conference. The weather’s cooperation helped to make the outside part even more enjoyable for all the attendees. The Capital Area Intermediate Unit played our host in the Harrisburg, PA area.
The region was fortunate and pleased to welcome Laurie Frank to help us with our celebration. Even though we put her to work by doing two pre-conference offerings, two workshops and our keynote address, she still had time to kick-up her heels (so to speak) and enjoy the festivities as part of the Mid-Atlantic clan for a while. We are grateful for Laurie’s time and generosity to the region and would also want to thank Pat Hammond for the time she spent with us at the conference.
A Friday evening reception, which gave us a chance to connect and re-connect with old and new friends, eat, drink and dance helped bring us together for the upcoming day and a half of workshops over the weekend. Workshops from environmental education, games with no-props, games with retired ropes, games with rubber chickens, sharing games, service learning to the Gone Fishin’ Mission, facilitating, creating communities to making musical instruments and on and on …. were choices for workshops we had to make. A community building drumming session on Saturday evening took us through a well rounded experience.
The Mid-Atlantic Region needs to thank all who attended the conference and for their support. Tell those no-shows what they missed. We ask you and them to celebrate with us next year.
