The Radford University, Virginia Recreation and Park Society, and Virgina Outdoor Resource Group (VORG) is proud to host the 2012 Mid-Atlantic Regional Association for Experiential Education Conference. The conference will be held March 23, 24 and 25, 2012 on the RU West Campus, located in Radford, Virginia. RU West is a beautiful 78-acre tract that adjoins the New River (second oldest river in the world) and is the home of the Recreation, Parks and Tourism Experiential Learning Laboratory which operates the RU Adventure Based Learning Experience (RU ABLE), Therapeutic Adventure Program (TAP) and the RU Gone Fishin’ program.

The RCPT Experiential Learning Laboratory operates year-round and has a team building course, helix climbing/rappelling tower, zip line and an indoor high ropes course with nine elements. The RU ABLE program provides challenge course programs to schools groups, college groups,
RU classes, corporate groups and community groups. They offer week long adventure summer camps for ages 8-14 and provide 3-day Therapeutic Adventure Programs (TAP) for people with disabilities.

The RU Department of Recreation, Virginia Recreation and Park Society, and Virgina Outdoor Resource Group (VORG) invites you to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference. The conference will offer many opportunities play with old friends, play with new friends, learn something new, share your knowledge, find internship site and have fun doing it!!   

Featuring Dixie Breakdowners:

The Dixie Breakdowners is an old time dance band from Patrick and Franklin counties. They are triplet band featuring the the musical instruments and rural styles of the Old South. Larry Mabe, from Woolwine, VA is a renown banjo player in the area, playing primarily the clawhammer style. He draws from the styles of Tommy Jarrell, Fred Cockerham and Peco Watson. Mike Vernor, also from the Patrick Co. area, is a authentic mountain guitar player. He plays a style he invented focusing on rythnm and melody runs. Will Moore is a fiddle player from Ferrum, Va. Will plays the old timey bowing he learned from David Sawyer, Fiddlin' Steve Mason and Mark C. Cambell. Together they have a true old time sound and always have a good time pickin' for anybody.
